Just an ID to make our page look less empty. And those two are obviously not us, but a rather simple depiction of Stephan and Selene. Less semi-realistic, more cartoony.

Yes, their relationship is very forbidden, especially in the eyes of Selene's mother. Selene is already betrothed to someone else-- a very close friend whose heart she cannot bear to break, and the future Duke of Basse-Normandie, thus creating a very fruitful business deal for her family--and Sel knows she cannot act upon any feelings for Stephan beyond friendship. Also, although Selene's mother will not openly admit it aloud, she cannot stand seeing her daughter with a sailor whose mother was a Spanish gypsy. (Yes, Stephan is half-Romani, half-Caucasian! )

Although they are both intrigued by the other (both of whom are from polar opposite backgrounds and Stephan's concealment of his past has given him an additional air of mystique to Selene), they know the implications of acting upon their feelings and even lie to themselves about their feelings. Stephan is fully aware of the class difference and Selene's betrothal, so sometimes he tends to shy away from her in general to prevent these feelings from burgeoning. He knows just how much Selene's wedding to the Duke's son means to her family, particularly her mother. However, she misinterprets this as emotional detachment, which makes things less than perfect

There's a looot more to this relationship but I don't want to spoil the story. Just wanted this description to have something to read!
